# Readingtick > A class reading log that families tick on their phone each night. The teacher sees one grid of nights, totals and streaks on Monday. No parent account, no child names. Readingtick is a home reading log for one class. A teacher signs in with a passkey (WebAuthn; no password, no email address), sets up a class with a label, a time zone, term dates and a number of readers, and prints a slip for each reader with a QR code, a 26-character class code and a 10-character family code. A family scans the slip (no account, no email) and ticks the nights their child read: tonight (before 04:00, last night) or any of the 6 nights before, with optional minutes and book title. The teacher sees one grid per week: nights ticked, each reader's streak and term total, and a line such as 19 of 27 read 3 or more nights; the grid checks for new ticks every 30 seconds while open. Streaks count nights in a row; no-reading days and, in school-nights mode, weekends neither break nor extend a streak. Readers are seat numbers and nicknames only (one word, or a word and one initial; the server refuses two-word names but cannot catch every form of a full name), and book titles refuse email addresses, web addresses and phone numbers. Data is kept in a Cloudflare D1 database; codes, session ids and the recovery code are stored only as SHA-256 digests. A record of nights a family marked as reading; it is not an assessment. ## Tool - [Class reading log families tick on their phone](https://readingtick.com/): What Readingtick is: a printed slip with a QR code for each reader, families tick nights read, the teacher sees one grid of nights, totals and streaks. ## How it works - [How the reading log, streaks and slips work](https://readingtick.com/how-it-works/): Setting up a class, the slips and their two codes, what a family can tick, the streak and total rules with worked examples, no-reading days, terms and what is kept. ## Reference - [FAQ](https://readingtick.com/faq/): Parent accounts, what identifies a child, streaks, weekends and holidays, missed nights, families without a phone, terms, exports and lost slips. - [About](https://readingtick.com/about/): What the site is, what it is not, and who it is for. ## Policies - [Privacy](https://readingtick.com/privacy/): Exactly what is stored about classes, readers and ticks, where, for how long, and how to export and delete it. - [Terms of use](https://readingtick.com/terms/): What the site can be relied on for, the teacher's part in school data rules, acceptable use and support. ## Pricing Free.
